Casey Cares Volunteers Make Front-Page News!

Posted: Feb 1, 2016

At Casey Cares, we rely heavily on our volunteers to meet our programmatic goals. They come in regularly, and not just for an hour or two. They coordinate, organize and manage special activities for our critically ill children and their families. Whether it’s balloons or Legos, it’s always special.

The Beacon Newspapers featured several of our hard-working volunteers on the cover of their February 2016 edition. We loved seeing the smiles on the faces of our two Birthday Blast volunteers – Terry Tacka and Nancy Lund – on the front page!

“Our volunteers are the backbone of our organization,” said Casey Baynes, founder and executive director Casey Baynes. “They work so hard behind the scenes to make our programs so special to the critically ill children and families from Casey Cares. We appreciate them so much and it’s nice to see their efforts honored publicly.”

Also included in the article were Debi Katzenberger, who created our Kami’s Jammies program in memory of her granddaughter Kamryn, who was a Casey Cares program participant. Katzenberger works full time at Care First insurance but volunteers between eight to 10 hours a week for Casey Cares. Last year alone, Kami’s Jammies provided more than 6,000 new pairs of pajamas to critically ill children at hospitals throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

Pat Scheitlin, another one of our great volunteers was featured. She is in the Casey Cares offices two to three days a week helping her daughter, Program Director Kim Meyers. Pat’s husband (and Kim’s dad) also actively volunteers for Casey Cares.
