A 12-hour drive was an easy decision for Colton and his family to make! Thanks to the generosity of the Cincinnati Reds, Virginian teen Colton, received a special VIP experience. He was diagnosed in March 2023 with embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare type of cancer that forms in soft tissue, and is undergoing intensive chemo and radiation treatments.

The 16-year-old watched Reds players during batting practice, got autographs from the players afterwards, and then sat with his family in VIP seats to watch the Marlins vs Reds game.

While Colton, his younger brother Cameron, and parents Scott and Allison live in Chesapeake, Virigina, the family are huge fans of the Reds and player Joey Votto, and jumped at the opportunity to make a fun road trip out of the venture.

Allison says, "What a day! Cameron and Colton each were given a Reds bag filled with great things. We went on the field during batting practice. Also, [we] met 6 amazing players and had great seats. They couldn’t have been nicer! Colton said the last 4 months will be the toughest he will ever face. But today, my family was all smiles and care free! It was awesome! I can’t thank Casey Cares and the Reds enough - it was a day we will never forget!"

She continues saying that her son, “always feels so down, especially after treatment, and doesn't understand why he has to be so different than everyone else."

The mom concludes, "It’s really tough for Cameron too, seeing his big brother go through this treatment is really stressful for him and he stays so strong. We are so thankful Casey Cares thinks of our whole family in their programs.”
